One of the main advantages of studying online is not having to be logged on at set times. You can log into your learning materials when it suits you and participate asynchronously to discussion boards, complete readings or any other tasks required. The sessions are typically recorded for you to view at your convenience. Your learning materials are located conveniently in one spot in our online classroom called Canvas.
Instructions on how to access your online classroom are located in your Student Portal. Assessment requirements including examinations differ from unit to unit. Depending on the accreditation requirements, you may need to sit an exam. However most postgraduate units will not have an exam. If you are required to sit an exam they will either held at a face-to-face venue at specified metro and regional exam centre venues around Australia or via an invigilated online exam. Your actual fees may vary depending on your course and which units you choose.
You may also need to a pay student services and amenities fees as a part of your course cost. NB: We review fees annually, and they may be subject to increases. For more information and to check you are eligible visit the Study Assist website.
All Australian university students must pay a Student Amenities Fee. Online students pay a reduced fee recognising they do not utilise the services to the same level as on-campus students. For eligible students, this fee can be deferred to your FEE HELP loan. For more information visit the Study Assist website. For this fee is waived. Assessment of advanced standing usually takes up to 10 business days.
If you are still awaiting an outcome, call your Course Consultant and they will provide an update for you. You may be able to have your past studies or work experience count as credit towards your QUT course. We call this 'advanced standing'. That means you might not have to complete all of the units listed in your course structure and you may be able to graduate sooner. Exemptions are assessed on an individual basis - talk to Course Consultant for more information.
Applying is easy. Simply call one of our Course Consultants on Monday to Friday 9am-5pm AEST or fill in our online application form. Entry criteria for each course is clearly outlined on our website. If you are unsure if you meet the entry criteria, our Course Consultants are available to discuss your specific qualifications or experience and help you make an informed decision.
Assessment of exemptions usually takes up to 10 business days. We have intakes commencing February, April, July and October. Start your studies in an intake that suits you. Enrolments close approximately 10 days prior to the commencement of each Teaching Period. While no formal English language testing is required for Australian domestic students, our postgraduate degrees are delivered at university level, so it is expected that all students are proficient in all aspects of the English language.
If you have any concerns prior to applying, talk to one of our Course Consultants on Exemptions may be granted for previous higher education or diploma level studies in related or non-related areas of study.

If you have any questions about studying at QUT Online, you can contact our Student Advisor Team on The content and learning outcomes of your course is the same as the on-campus equivalent, however, your course has been purpose built for online learners to acknowledge the different needs and challenges for students studying virtually.
Whether you study on-campus or online, the learning outcomes and qualification are the same and you will receive the same testamur. A testamur is your graduation certificate and it does not specify your mode of study. Regardless of whether you study online or on-campus you will still be getting the same qualification from an internationally ranked university.
Units run over a 10 week teaching period require an appropriate time commitment to ensure you can digest, understand and reflect on the course content. It is recommended during the teaching period you set aside approximately hours per week. If you add or drop a unit prior to Census Date, it will not appear on your academic transcript.
Check Key Dates for Census Dates. QUT Online provides most of your learning materials and digital textbooks for free. For some units, you may be required to buy specific software, if this is the case, this will be advised well in advance via your student email.
For most courses, everything you need is at your fingertips and there is no need for you to ever set foot on-campus. If you happen to be nearby a campus or would like to access university services or facilities, as an online student you are able to do so. Feel free to drop into the library, use the computer labs and any other services that may assist you with your studies.
